Teaching objectives:
1. Objectives of the knowledge:
The students know the 4 rules and 2 tips of using question words with to-infinitives. And grasp the new words and phrases like “reviews” and “hand in”. 2. Objectives of the abilities:
The students know how to use question words with to-infinitives and when to use it.
3. Objectives of the emotion:
The students are encouraged to be a careful planner. Travel a lot and read more, and make sure that your body and soul must be on the way.
Teaching difficulties:
1. How to let the students work out the rules of using question words with to- infinitives by themselves.
2. How to make sure the students can use question words with to- infinitives at the right time and in the right way.
Teaching procedures: Step 1: Get into the topic
1. Do you like spring? Why? I like it, because it’s the best time to go traveling. Now this time, let’s plan a day out.
Be a careful planner: use question words to ask questions about the plan for traveling.
Purpose: to arouse the students’ interest in the topic of traveling, and start to pay attention to the sentence structure by making plans.
Step 2: Work out rules to use question words + to- infinitives
1. before traveling
(1)Work out rule 1 from the sentences: V+ question words + to do.
Rule 1:We may put____________ with_______ after a verb.
(2) We may have some details to figure out. Match the question words with to- infinitives, and use them to complete the sentences. Practice the sentence structure above.
The students don’t know__________.
The teacher should make sure _________________. We wonder ____________________. We are thinking about____________.
Our parents want to know ________.
Tip1:”why” cannot be used in this way.
(3) What do we need to prepare? (Fill in the blanks)
We should prepare __________________ (该穿什么衣服)according to the weather. If we don’t know____________________(该借谁的相机), we may ask for help. We haven’t decided________________ (该乘哪辆公交 ). We are discussing ____________(参观多少地方) and _____________________(该带多少钱).
(4) Work out rule 2 from the 5 sentences above: V+ question words +n. + to do.
Rule 2: We may use a ______ after question words.
(5) One of your classmates Bob wants to buy something before traveling. Can you give him some advice? Complete the dialogue. Practice the sentence structure above.
Mum: Hey, let’s go to the supermarket.
Bob : I want to buy some snacks, but I don’t know ________________________________. Mum: You may take 100 yuan with you.

2. while traveling
(1)Get some suggestions from teachers and parents. Translate some sentences. Work out rule 3 from the 3 sentences above: V+O + question words + to do. Rule 3: We may put a verb and an _______ before question words.
(2)While traveling, how to face the problems? Work in pairs and make a short dialogue according to the information in the table. Practice the sentence structure above.

3. after traveling
(1) How can we share our feelings? We should think about what to write about.
We should choose who to show photos to. We should decide who to talk to.
Tip 2: which/who/what + to + vi.+ prep.
Purpose: to give different task to lead the students to show some sentences, and let students work out some rules according to the sentences they made by themselves. Then try to set some situations to let the students practice the different structure they learned.
Step3 Try to be a careful planner
Traveling enriches our life, and it’s important for our body to be on the way. However, our minds also need to be on the way. How can we enrich our minds?
1. We got a reading week in our school, and Amy and Daniel are talking about it. Let’s complete their dialogue.
2. Pair work: make a dialogue to talk about your plan for a travel for study during the summer vacation.
3. You can either travel or read, but either your body or soul must be on the way.

Purpose: to lead the students to think about the meaning of traveling and reading. Encourage them to travel a lot and read more books.
