Step 1:Free talk
How many charities do you know?
Which is your favorite charity? Why? Would you like to do charity work? What would you like to do for others? What does this logo stand for? What do you know about ORBIS? Revise the information about ORBIS
Would you like to be one of them? Step 2: Presentation
T: Today we’ll learn about Diana, a nurse from ORBIS. Look at the pictures of her past life.
Q: 1. Which picture above is from the past?
1. Which picture above is from the past? Was she happy at that time? 2. What does she do now? Is she happy now? 3. What changes her?.
T: What do you think of Diana?
If we do something for charity, we can also get something from it. T: Which programme is she watching? Why does she learn about ORBIS ?
Step 3: Pre-Writing
Part 1: what was her life like in the past? Part 2: What changed her life? Part 3: What is her life like now?
Read the passage and fined more information. Get the main idea of each paragraph.

Step 4: Presentation
T: Would you like to be a member or a volunteer of other charities? T: This is another girl’s life: Mandeep
Revise something about UNICEF.
Get to know the past and present of Mandeep. Get to know the changes in Mandeep’s life.
1. used to work on the farm all day, couldn’t read or write How to make the words rich and colorful?
e.g. Mandeep used to get up very early in the morning because she had a lot of work to do every day. It was tiring for her to grow the plants on the farm all day. She couldn’t read or write, but she really wanted to change her life. Sadly, she couldn’t afford to go to school.
Tip: Use some adjectives, adverbs or some conjunctions(连词). Use different expressions.

1. Write a report about Mandeep’s life/ 2. Correct your works in your groups. Share some good ones with your classmates
Language points:
1. 她想要帮助有眼疾的穷人重见光明,所以她下定决心接受护士培训,并在下班后去上课。
She wanted to help poor people with eye problems see again, so she made up her mind to train as a nurse and attended courses after work. make up one’s mind 意思是“作出决定”。
make up one’s mind to do sth = decide to do sth= make a decision to do 我希望你能尽快作出决定。
I hope you can make up your mind soon. 我们已经决定参加比赛了。
We’ve decided/made up our mind to take part in the match.
2. 她习惯了乘飞机来往各地。
She is getting used to travelling by plane.
短语be/get used to something/doing something意思是“习惯于,适应” e.g. 现在在淮安,大多数司机习惯了在斑马线前停下了等行人先行。
