Reading: King Lear
Part 1 Teaching Material
The content of my lesson is New Senior English for China Module 10 Unit 2 Reading King Lear. The material is a play written by William Shakespeare, but the passage is shortened and simplified. Also, reading play is not unfamiliar to students, because they learnt A Million Pound Note before. Therefore, it is easy for students to read the plot, appreciate the play and analyze the personalities of main characters.
Part 2 Teaching Aims
After the class, the students will be able to 1) predict the content by illustrations and title
2) figure out main characters and main idea through skimming
3) appreciate the play from characters, plot, conflict and personalities by detailed reading
4) present the play with proper emotion after analyzing personalities of characters

Step 1: Get your mind ready ( 6 minutes)
1. Greetings! Share the learning objectives with the whole class and predict the
content.
2. Skim for the main characters and main idea. 设计说明:

1. Map story line & Summarize events
After detailed reading, ask students to map the story line and summarize the events.
2. Add feeling line & Find conflicts
Pay attention to Lear’s feelings and then add the feeling line on the story line and analyze the reasons behind and conflicts.

1. Discuss personalities of main characters within groups after reading. 2. Find supporting sentences in the reading material. 设计说明:
通过探讨角色性格,并找到文中的支撑句,训练学生的阅读高阶能力, 并且对戏剧人物有更深刻的理解。
Step4: Get your lines ready (12minutes)
1. Read the lines with proper emotion according to the personalities of main
characters.
2. Ask students to present group work before the class. 设计说明:
通过进行角色扮演,首先可以培养组间的合作精神,其次在分析人物性 格后,揣摩角色说话语气,培养学生的输出能力。 Step4:Homework (2 minutes)
1. Write down your opinion about how we treat our parents. 2. Read the lines again and appreciate beautiful sentences. 设计说明:
“一千个读者心里有一千个哈姆雷特”,让学生结合自己的经历谈谈如何对待父母,以达到立德树人的目的。其次,课后再读台词,体会莎翁语言之美,为下一个阅读课时读后续写做好铺垫。
