1. This unit includes two scenes of the play King Lear. In this period, Students should learn the plot of scene 1 and put forward their questions and present their views in class.
2. Help Students get rid of difficult language points to have a deep understanding of the play.

Teaching Procedure Pre-Reading Stage
Step 1.Greetings and Lead in.
Ask students something about William Shakespeare and his works. 1. Who was William Shakespeare? 2. What do you know about him?
3. What books did he write? Can you name some? Have you read any of them?
4. Have you read the play King Lear in Chinese version? Do you know anything about it?
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is known as the greatest dramatist the world has ever known, the finest poet who wrote in the English language, and the world's most popular author. His poetry and plays remain in print today in numerous languages and his dramatic works continue to be performed around the world. His works include 37 plays, 154 sonnets and two long narrative poems. Most importantly, he is among the very few playwrights who are good at both comedy and tragedy.
His four famous comedies are Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like it.

When we study a play, we have to know its plot diagram and analyze its characters’ personality.
