Unit 6 Topic2 Section B
Ⅰ.First,National English Curriculum
According to the National English Curriculum (2011) for compulsory education, the following listening skills and speaking skills are required:
Listening and getting the key information
Using vocabulary or pictures to describe thing,behavior and feature Understanding the theme of the passage;
Understanding the meaning of vocabulary in some particular situations Communicating and cooperating with others;
Ⅱ.Second, Analysis of the teaching material
Topic1 mainly about spring field trip
Toipc2 talk about travelling in Tian’an men Square,they went there by bicycle Topic3 talk about the bicycles and how to keep safe when riding bicycles You can see they are step by step In Topic 2,
In Section A,we have known that Kangkang’s friend Dareen will explore Beijing.In Section B, Kangkang and Dareen talk about the directions of great buildings in Tian’an men Square,they will go there.
Section C is the travelling experience to the Tian’an men Square. Section A and B are the foundation of Section C .
Ⅲ.Third,Analysis of Student Background:
They are activeand highly-motivate.
After learning English for almost a year, their English is OK. Language level
Tian’an man square is familiar to the students.It’s not strange for them.but they
don’t know the English names of buildings
They have learned word:south.But they don’t know how to read other
directions.
They don’t know how to describe the area,length and width
Ⅳ.Fourth,Teaching objects:
We have three teaching objects to achieve. *Knowledge objects:
By the end of the class,students should be able to
1. Listen and read new words:north, east ,west, republic, monument, chairman, memorial, can’t wait to Understand words: hold
Distinguish words: In /to /on
2.Listen and read new sentence structures:It covers ... How far ...?
*Ability objects:By the end of the class, students should improve their listening, speaking
Develop students’ ability to listen Develop students’ ability to speak *Moral objects:
1.Stimulate the students’ love for their hometown.To learn about Tian’anmen Square ,to learn about Chongqing,to learn about Chinese Culture
2.Students enjoy helping others, and they are glad to introduce their hometown to others.
Focal points:
To describe the direction
To describe the area, length and width.
Difficult points:
To read the the names of building
To distinguish the use of in/on/to;
To introduce the places of interest in Chongqing based on key information
Ⅴ.Fifth, Teaching and learning approaches: (Teaching approaches)
Task-based approach(Students should be aware of their job before taking action) Communicative approach (English is a tool,It’s for communication) Audio lingual approach ( Make the class lively and interesting.)
Situational Language Teaching ( Put them in real situation and they can feel the language,feel the English. )
Multi-media assistant teaching method( Make the class lively and interesting.) (Learning approaches)
Imitating (It is a basic way for students to learn language ) Self-motivated learning (It is a key life skill)
Cooperative learning method (work in groups to finish the task) In teaching procedures.I’ll interpret these approaches in detail. Ⅵ.Teaching procedures:
Pre-listening
There are 5 steps,self-introduction,learn the new words,do 3a ,do 3b,and distinguish the use of in/on/to.
(here we use task-based approach,Situational language Teaching,Audio Lingual Approach and students can imitate the pronunciation and Cooperate with their partners. )
Step 1 Teacher will make a self-introduction and share her travel experiences with
students .During this process ,students can feel the directions.
(To attract the students’ attention and raise their learning interests.)
Step 2 Teacher will use the travelling photos to guide the students to learn the Great buildings .Student imitate the pronunciation of these words. (Make Ss master the pronunciation of these words and read them correctly)
Step 3 Teacher sets real-life situations for students. Her friend Sara is coming to visit Beijing now,But she can’t find the place .Teacher encourage students to help Sara.
( Sets real-life situations for students and encourage students to help others.)
Step 4and 5 Students will finish 3a,match the names with the buildings.Teacher will draw the directions on the blackboard and learn other directions. Then finish 3b. (consolidate the the names of buildings and the directions.)
Step 6 Students are encouraged to find out the differences about preposition.students discuss with their partners and find out the differences. (It can cultivate students’ observation ability and summarizing capability)
While-listening
There are 3 steps, including two listening practice and a blank filling .
(Here I use the task-based approach and the audio lingual approach.They can get the whole class active in listening and thinking. )
Step 1and 2 Students listen to the material to find out the length and width . The second time is to answer three questions(where?who?How far?).
( Listening practice is to check whether the students can understand the target language or not and get more information about Tian'anmen square.Enable to develop the Ss’ listening skills. )
Step three watch the video about 1a and fill in the blanks .It is not only the main idea of the dialogue but also an introduction of Tian’an men square.Teacher show the structure of the passage.it includes three parts,where?meaningful?How?
(It is an example for students to introduce some place.Pave the way for the language output.)
Post-listening
It is mainly about The language output ,summary ,emotion output and homework
(for this we use Task-based approach,Communicative approach,Situational Language Teaching)
Step 1 The language output
Teacher will show a video about Chongqing which is made by teacher.Give students enough background.In the video, Students can see the North hot spring,Yikeshu Viewing Deck and so on.They are very familiar with these places .It can
stimulate the students’love for their hometown Teacher sets real-life situations for students again.Sara will come to Chongqing.she need a guide.Students work in groups and choose one place to introduce. In order to make students have good understanding of the activity,teacher use to video to show how to do it well.
(Students are able to use the target language to describe some places . They are able to cooperate with others in pairs and groups.) Step2 Make a summary
Purpose: To echo the objects of the lesson. Step 3 Emotion output
Students will enjoy the beauty of nature in China, teacher will advise students to travel around the country to open their mind . Step 4 Assignment (homework)
Ask the students to review the key points in Section B. Describe the directions of the provinces by using the map.All the students should be able to finish these 3 tasks.Last one ,they can decide whether they will do according to the language level. (Like this , Students can have more confidence and get good results.To make Ss get some meaningful productions and consolidation.)
