I. Analysis of Teaching Material
This unit is selected from PEP Grade eight, Unit 9 Section B 2b. Singapore - A Place You Will Never Forget! The language functions are talking about past experiences. And we have a chance to know more information about different cultures in different countries, especially in Singapore.
II. Analysis of the Students
Students in Grade 8 have learned English for some years. This content is close to the students’ travelling experience and the topic related to cultures of foreign counties, so it can bring up the students’ interest in expressing themselves in English as well.

1. 语言知识目标:
1)To learn some new words and expressions of this section..
Eg: Southeast, quarter, fear, Indian, wake, equator, awake. Thousands of…, on one hand…on the other hand, three quarters of the population, an English-speaking country, whether…..or…., the best time to do sth., wake up.
2.)Practice the reading skills: skimming, scanning, careful reading. 3)make some notes about the good parts of visiting Singapore . 2. 情感态度价值观目标:learn to respect the culture of other countries.
重点 (1) Master the words and expressions and know how to use them.
(2) Improve communication skills and reading skills, especially learn how to make notes. 集体研讨

(1) Main idea and the structure of the passage.

I. Have a speech and warming up
1.Ask the student who is on duty today to give a speech about this Unit.
2.Play a game named Me, too.
Ask the students some questions about where they have been to. (To stimulate the students’ learning interest and warm up.) 【设计意图】游戏的方式, 复习现在完成时并激发学生学习兴趣和热情)
II. Pre-reading
1. Show a short video to the students and make them have a choice “What does the video tell us about Singapore?
2.Lead to the context we are going to learn today.(unit9 section B 2b) “Reading and Passing”
(To make the students know what we are going to learn today.)

III. While-reading
1. Skimming: Try to match the main idea with the correct paragraph.
Paragraph 1 Food in Singapore Paragraph 2 Night Safari Paragraph 3 Weather
Paragraph 4 Location, population and language (To practice the reading skill: skimming and make the students get the main idea of each paragraph.)

2. Scanning :Read Para. 1 &Para.2 and fill in the blanks. (To practice the reading skill: scanning and make the students get the details of Para 1 and Para 2.)

3.Careful Reading : First, watch a video about the Night safari and then ask students to read Para 3 carefully and find the answers of the following questions.
1. What is the name of the special zoo ?
