Lesson plan
Part1: Analysis of teaching material:
The material is selected from People’s Education Press. Grade7, U1 Can you play the guitar?
The material is a convdersation about finding students for a school show in a music club and some advertiments of searching for talents.
The key point: to learn some words and phrases about instruments and the useage of can;
to train students’ listening skill of getting specific items in conversations; to improve their reading skill ofskimming and scanning. to write an ad for school show
The difficult point: how to make students use what they have learnt in real situations.
Part2: Analysis of students:
The students of this stage are active, quick in thought and eager to show what they know. They have learnt English for a few years and have a certain ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. But they lack opportunities to express themselves in English. Therefore, in my class, I will provide them more chances to communicate and use language in real situations.
Part3: Teaching objectives:
1. Knowledge:
To learn some useful expressions about instuments, such as: play the guitar, play the violin, play the drums, play the piano…
2. Ability:
To skim for the titles through the topic sentences; To scan for specific information through key words; 3. Emotion:
To develop their spirit of cooperation through pair work and group work.
Part4: Teaching and learning methods:
Task-based teaching method; Situational teaching method;
Students will be encouraged to learn though individual work, pair work and group work.
Part5: Teaching Procedures: Step 1 lead-in (5mins)
Show some pictures of the Second Foreign Languages Festival they had two weeks ago. Ask students what they can do on the festival, which aims to practice the sentence pattern: “… can… “
Then lead in The Second Art Festival, which will be held next term. Show them somevedios of the First Art Festival, and ask them what they can do on the festival.
Then create a scene that another English teacher, Maggie and I need to prepare for the Second Art Festival. We need students’ help.
Step 2 present(20mins)
Task 1 (New words and phrases ) (3mins)

The scene: Maggie and I need to tell the instruments first.
Ask the students to help us tell the instruments.Listen to the music and tell the instuments.
Task 2: (Listening and speaking)(10mins)
The scene: Maggie goes to a music club to find students for the school show. She talks with three students.
① Listen to the conversation and circle the words and phrases you hear.
② Listen again and fill in the chart. what they can do and can’t do?

③ Speaking (pair work) : talk about what they can do and can’t do.
Task3: (Reading)(12mins)
The scene: I need to go to the school notice board to write an ad for the school show. Ask the students to read with me. Divide the students into senven groups.
Each group chooses one egg. There are questions behind the eggs. Answer the questions and get points.
Which group gets more points, which group is the winner. Here are the questions:

Step3 practice (3mins)
The scene: After reading the ads, I need to write an ad for the school show. Give students an example of the ad, and then ask them to complete the ad.
Step4 output (10mins)
Ask the students to help me write an ad for the school show. (group work) Students Wanted for School Show
