教学目标
Teaching aims:1. Talk about different types of humor including a taste of
English humor
2. Learn how to express one’s feelings and thoughts using
body language without words.
2学情分析
Students’ analysis: Students in my class are poor in English, especially oral English. Most of them are so shy that they cannot express themselves directly.In this class, I will give them more chances to improve their speaking ability.
3重点难点
Key points: 1.Help students learn how to understand and enjoy English humors and nonverbal humor.
2. Enable students know the life of Charlie Chaplin and act as the little tramp when facing difficulties in life.
Difficult points: Help students know the differences between English and Chinese in humor.
4教学过程
4.1Teaching procedure:
4.1.1新设计
Step 1: Lead-in
Show some pictures to students, let them talk about the pictures and then ask them what they think of the pictures.
Questions: 1) What can you see in the pictures?
2) Why do they laugh?
3) What makes people happy and laugh?
Step 2. Pre-reading
Questions: 1) Can anyone tell what makes people happy and laugh?
Shows: Three groups give their performances and other groups guess what it is.
Group1: Sketch
Student A: Good morning my dear classmates .She is Baiyun I am Heitu. When the local TV station heard that we have a rooster that laying golden eggs. They were so excited that my wife was invited to shoot a commercial. Now, I would like you to see if it is good enough. Ok?
Student B: Roosters laying golden eggs are the best ones .(Give her performance).
Group2: Cross talk
Student A: Several days age, my all but son-in-law invited me to have a dinner in the Seafood Center.
Students B: Good, your all but son-in-law is generous.
Student A:I did think so. The lobsters and sea crabs were big and fresh. He asked me
to take the order. I said “I like those that have shells.” Then my all but son-in-law told the waiter “ Melon seeds please.”
Students B: Your all but son-in-law is really generous.
Group3: Jokes
Student A: A mother is very good at using every chance to educate her son, who was only three years old .One day she took a plug and said to her son “Look, there are two pieces of copper . So it must be plugged in a place where there are two holes , where do you think it should be plugged?”.” Plug in nose” her son said .
Step 3. Reading(Ⅰ)
Questions: 1) Do you like their performances?
2)Is there any other type of humor?
Shows: A student acts as the little tramp, eating a leather shoe as if it was the best meals he has ever tasted just like the film The Gold Rush.
Questions: 3) Who is he? Do you like him?
4) Which do you like better? Verbal or nonverbal humor?
Students: Share their opinions about the questions above.
Step 4. Reading(Ⅱ)
Questions: 1) Who is the actor that plays the role of the little tramp?
2) What do you know about him?
Skimming: Students listen to the tape and match the main idea with each paragraph:

Paragraph3 An example of his work
Paragraph4 The world situation
paragraph5 His famous film character
Carefully Reading : Read the passage again and carefully, get some detailed information about Charlie Chaplin.

Shows: Two students show some pictures of Charlie Chaplin telling the life of the master of English humor.
1. Charlie Chaplin was born in a poor family in 1889.His parents were both poor music hall performance.
2. He was taught to sing as soon as he could speak and dance as soon as he could walk.
3. Unfortunately, his father died, leaving the family even worse off, he spend his childhood looking after his sick
mother and brother.
4. By his teens, Charlie had, through his humor, become one of the most popular child actors in England.
5. As time went by, he began making films. He grew more and more popular as his charming character, the little tramp,
became known throughout the world.
6. Charlie Chaplin wrote, directed and produced films he starred in.
7. In 1972 he was given a special Oscar for his outstanding work in films.
8. He lived in England and the USA but spent his last years in Switzerland, where he was buried in 1977.
9. He is loved and remembered as a great actor who could inspire people with great confidence.
Step 5: Act
7 students act out 5 situations by using nonverbal humor.
Situation 1: carry a heavy box
Situation 2: in a hurry
Situation3: bump into someone else round a corner
Situation 4: slide on a banana skin
Situation 5: see a beautiful girl
Emotional education: Smile, even when you are in difficult situations.
Step 6: Homework
Surf the Internet to find more information about Chaplin and present it
to your classmates in the next class.
