Analysis of the teaching materials:
本文出自萧伯纳的戏剧剧作《卖花女》(Pygmalion),讲述了说话不饶人的语言学家Henry Higgins与友人打赌,要在六个月之内,将满口乡音、在伦敦街头卖花的少女Eliza Doolittle改造成大家闺秀,出席上流社会的舞会而不被揭发。Eliza通过Henry一连串的发音及仪态训练,最终被改造成优雅贵妇。本节选为Henry和友人打赌的一幕。文本中人物对话灵动风趣,性格冲突明显,通过赏读此文本,学生能直白地感受到不同人物性格特征的极大差异,体会到作者语言中用词的精妙,品味语言背后作者对于当时英国的腐朽保守的等级意识的抨击,对于质朴善良的高尚人性的赞美,和对于丑恶虚假的讽刺。
