Analysis of textbook
The reading material is the introduction of the tour of London. It’s another good example to help establish students’ reading strategies ,such as grasping the main idea by skimming, finding the detailed information by
scanning .Meanwhile ,this unit provides the model for writing about directions
and positions .According to this passage, students can create a composition
concerning asking the way, telling the way or describing a zone.
Teaching aims To train reading strategies including skimming, inferring and scanning; to cultivate the sense of coherence; to identify information about the main idea of each paragraph; to learn something about London’s famous buildings; to know
how to describe a zone using correct directions and prepositions.
Knowledge and ability
1. Words and expressions: tour , gallery, painting, parliament, clear, boat, off , tower, welcome to ,on a clear day, get off , the best way to , go past
2. Learn about the information of the tour London ,mainly about constructions.
3. Improve the reading abilities and read the map very well.
4. Master the skills about how to describe a zone with accurate prepositions
about positions.
Process and method 1. Help students establish reading strategies through the tasks while reading 2. Encourage students to solve the questions alone and work in pairs or groups 3. Urge students to cooperate to each other actively and guide them to interact with others.
4. Use top-down method to solve the reading comprehension
5. Learn to write by watching the hints or samples given by teacher.

Step1 Leading in
To create good circumstances and draw the students’ attention to the key phrases And then lead in the new lesson .
1.Warm up.Tell the Ss I’m not Mr Cheng now, but Uncle Bird to create a good atmosphere.
2.Play a piece of music called Jiangnan Style.With the music, I do many actions to review the direction prepositions
3.Interact with the Ss.
1. Guess what’s the movements of the teacher and answer teacher’s questions.
2. Listen to the song and cooperate with the teacher. 3. Express ideas about the teacher’s actions.
4. Practise a dialogue about telling the way.
Step2 Pre- reading
To introduce some words about famous buildings in London. And to develop students’ guessing ability and stimulate the students’ interest. Meanwhile I help the Ss to establish listening strategies.
1. Show some pictures and ask the students to match them with the English names
2. Read the words to the students and help them to read the words about the buildings correctly.
3. Provide the students with a fixed and short sentence pattern to practise all these words. 4. Before playing the recorder , stress the red points on the map.
1. Look at the pictures about London’s famous buildings. 2. Match the pictures with the English names.
3. Read after the teacher.
4. Practise the words with the sentence pattern given by the teacher.
5. Answer what different red points stand for and know they are the keys to the listening questions
Step3 While- reading
To Learn about the information of the tour London. To master the skills about how to describe a zone with accurate prepositions about positions.
1. Play the recorder and help the students know the keys and the details about the questions a ,b, c, d, e . 2. Show three questions about the passage while the students are listening and reading .
3. Provide some single choices about the passage. 4. Ask the students to find out important expressions.
1. Match five building’s names with a, b , c, d, e. 2. Read the passage individually and answer the three questions.
3. Work in pairs to read again and choose the correct answers. 4. Find out important expressions in the passage. 5. Do exercise II in the self-check paper.
Step4 Post- reading
To train students’ summary and writing ability . 1. Show the map with the
tour route .
2. Give the students some hints about the task. 3. Summary the knowledge points in this unit. 4. Provide a new map and ask the students to finish writing a composition about directions and
telling the way. 1. Watch the map with the tour route carefully .
2. Write a composition about directions and telling the way.
3. Make a report about their composition.
4. Supplement the blanked positions, which .is used as homework.
Homework
1.Read the passage of unit2 fluently.
2.Recite the words and the phrases of this module. 3.Write directions to places that you like.
4.Supplement the blanked positions to make a complete tour route.
