Steven Jobs was an American businessman and inventor. When Steve Jobs was born in 1955, in San Francisco, California, his unmarried mother decided to put him for adoption because she wanted a girl. So in the middle of the night, his mother called a lawyer named Paul Jobs and said, “We have an unexpected baby boy and do you want him?” But his mother told his future parents to promise that they would send Jobs to college. After Steve Jobs graduated from high school, he went to college but decided to drop out because it was so expensive that he had to sleep on the floor in his friends’ rooms.
At 20, he and a friend (Steve Wozniak) started a company in a garage on April 1, 1976. Jobs named their company----Apple, in memory of a happy summer he had spent as an orchard in Oregon. After losing a power struggle with the board in 1985, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded Next Computer. Apple was under heavy pressure from rival Microsoft and in 1996 posted billions of dollars in losses. Apple needed Steve Jobs and he was appointed as CEO in1996. Under his leadership, Apple returned to profitability and introduced many new products such as the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. In 2003, he was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told that this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable. After 8 years, he resigned again. Two months later, he died.
Steve Jobs invented many electronic products and changed the face of the modern world. Steve Jobs once said, “Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick, Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking.
“Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me to change the world?” Steve Jobs can give you the answer.

Teaching aims: Students will be able to
1. know how to talk about personal information;
2. grasp the six elements of the body of a biographical article;
3. learn how to write a biographical article.
本节课始终以话题“A great inventor-Godfather of Apple”为主线,展开说、读、写为主的写作教学。
Teaching Importance:
How to grasp the structure of a biographical article
Teaching Difficulty:
Help the students organize the information of the writing
Step1. Lead-in
1. Chatting about personal information
2. A guessing game about some amazing people
3. A general idea about the body of a biographical article
Step2. Reading
1. Arouse the students’ interest by watching a short video about Steve Jobs;
2. Read the brief introduction of Steve Jobs and fill in the blanks;
3. Grasp the six elements of the body of a biographical article.
设计思路:通过播放乔布斯2005年在斯坦福大学的精彩演讲片段,让学生更能理解乔布斯的名言“Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick, don’t lose heart.”
Step3. Information -organizing
Go through the sample on P57 and complete the task-based reading.
Grasp the structure.
Pay attention to linking words, good expressions and complex sentences.
Step4. Writing a biographical article
1.give 15minutes to finish it according to the hints;
2.let the students go to the front to present their composition;
3.correct them and give a suggested sample.
Step5. Homework
1. Further polish your biographical article.
2. Prepare for another amazing person----Yang Liwei (Project).
