Lead-in
Look at a picture of planets on the solar system and lead to the Mars. Brainstorm: what will life be like on Mars? To break the ice and activate students’ imagination about life on Mars.
Pre-reading Read the sentences on the paper in pairs and guess the meaning of the underlined words. learn some new words and expressions by themselves.
Match the new words and their meanings in pairs.
While-reading Skim the text and answer a question. To help students have a general idea of the text. Read carefully and divide the article into
three parts, then match the main ideas with the paragraphs. Read Para1 and answer a question. To lead students to find out some detailed information about the transport, how to survive and
how to live on Mars.
Read Para 2and fill in the blanks.
Read Para 3&4 and answer questions about what is necessary to survive on Mars. Read Para5&6 and compare the life on the earth with the life on Mars.
Read Para7 and answer a question: What does the writer think of life on Mars?
Post-reading
Discuss in groups: would you like to live on Mars? Why? Then report. To set up a situation in which students can use information from the text to describe the life on Mars.
Watch a video about the research on Mars. To encourage students to work
harder to do something for the research.
Assignments Read the text aloud after the tape recording three times.
To help students to consolidate what they have learned in class. Further reading: Read another article about Mars and so some exercises. To learn more knowledge about
Mars.
