Step1 Introduction
Warm up. Teacher and students greet each other. And do daily exercises to prepare for this class.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Let students enjoy an English song , and find out the present continuous tense. And lead in the past continuous tense.
2. The teacher shows different pictures on the screen to learn the past continuous tense. Each picture shows different sentence patterns of the past continuous tense. Let students know the present continuous tense change into the past continuous easily. Change is ,am ,are into was ,

were. At the same time , learn new words-----news, chat, museum ,roast duck. Tell students to pay more attention to their pronunciation and intonation.
3. Ask and answer each other to practice general question and special question of the past continuous tense.
4. Work in pairs. Show three pictures , students make dialogs with different patterns of the past continuous tense. ( general question and special question)
5. The teacher lead in 1a by asking questions. Listen to 1a, then students answer questions. → students open books read 1a in roles. →underline the form of the structure(the present continuous tense and the past continuous tense) → learn a new word ---answer.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Listen to 2 and fill in the blanks quickly in order to practice the present continuous tense and the past continuous tense , master the structure better. Listen again and check the answers they fill in, pay much attention to the verb forms and spellings.Check the answers together and ask students to underline the form “was/were+doing”. Observe the form, and try to change these statements into general questions.
Step 4 Pracrice
1. The teacher plays a video for students. Let students write down key words such as student’s name and action, then express the whole sentence with the

past continuous tense.
2. After enjoying the video, teacher asks questions so that students practice different structures of the past continuous tense. Step5 Summary
The teacher shows important language points on the computer screen as a summary.

Teaching Reflection. It’s easy for the students to remember the structure “was/were+doing” because they know the present continuous tense, but it’s a little hard for them to use it. When students write a passage or a conversation, they often forget “doing” or “was/were”. Teachers should design more activities to practice this structure.
