Teaching Aims:
1.Target Language: be thankful to sb; spend time doing sth; with one’s help; luckily, at that time; to one’s surprise; encourage sb to do sth
2. Emotional Aim: Enable students to be thankful to the teachers around them and cherish time in order to be better in the future.
3. Writing Aims: Enable students to know some writing strategies. Teaching Steps:
Step One: Greeting and lead in
(Play a song with some photos of teachers,students and school)
T: Hello, boys and girls. S: Hello, Tina.
T: Just now, we enjoyed a beautiful song and some photos. What did you see in the photos?
S1:I saw some flowers, tall trees and our teaching buildings in our school.
T: So, what do you think of our school? S2: It’s a wonderful place to study and have fun. T: What else did you see? S: I see our teachers.
T: What do you think of them? S: Friendly, helpful .... T: Who else did you see? S: our classmates.
T: What do you think of your classmates? S: friendly....
T: Well, because of our beautiful school, helpful teachers and friendly classmates, our school life is full of challenges but meaningful. Step Two:
T: However, we’ll say goodbye to each other soon. Will you miss us? S: ....
T: Who will you miss most?Why? S: I will miss ... Most. ....
(ask two or three more students to share their ideas.) Step Three: Leading into a writing composition T: What a good teacher he/she is! You’re lucky. Well, thanks for loving us. As a teacher, I think it’s the most moving thing. Luckily, my student Coco said that I (Tina) was her unforgettable teacher. What’s more, she wrote a passage to our school magazine Sunshine to show her love to me. But she ‘s not sure whether it’s good enough. Can you help her? S: Yes.
T: Let’s read her passage first.
Step Four: Writing Strategies---Strategy 1
T: Look! Here is the beginning. How about this sentence? Can you make it better?
S: (I’ve studied here for three years.) I’ve spent three years studying here.
How time flies. Three years has passed since I studied here. Time went by quickly! It’s been 3 years since I studied here. T: All of you have great ideas.
How about these sentences? ---(Tina is the most unforgettable teacher. Tina helped me a lot. I’ve grown up.) S: ...
S: ... (让学生自由发散思维,勇于分享自己的好词好句,教师给予评价)
T: Here are examples: Tina is the most unforgettable teacher. With her help, I’ve grown up so much.
Tina is one of the teachers who I’ll never forget. The main reason is that without her help, I would not grow up so much. T: Here comes the tip 1: Beautify the sentences with good phrases.
Step Five: Writing Strategies---Strategy 2 “I remember. I was a shy girl.” T: How can you make it more better?
May be you can use object clauses and attributive clauses. S: I remember that I used to be a shy girl.
I remember that I used to be shy girl who was afraid to answer teachers’ questions in class.
“Science was difficult. I couldn’t answer it. I was upset during those days.” S: ...
T: Maybe you can use : find it +adj.+for sb to do sth/ so ...that.../ too...to ... And Exclamotory sentences. S: ....
T: Read these sentences. What problem did you find? “She told me that knowledge was valuable. I need to look for them. She told me to study science hard. She told me to think more about my future.”
S: I can see “she told ...” in three places.
T: Is it good to use the same sentence patterns when we write?
S: No. We need to use different sentence patterns. .....
T: Here comes the tip 2: Use different sentence patterns. Step Six: Writing Strategies---Strategy 3 “I was a shy girl. I didn’t do well in study.” T: Is it fluent? S: No.
T: We can see Coco has two problems. What are they? So how can we make it better and fluent? We can put some words here.
S: I was a shy girl. What’s worse, I didn’t do well in study. T: Here’s the tip 3: Use proper linking words.
By the way, what other linking words do you know? S: ....
T: Just now, we know that Tina paid attention to Coco. How has Coco changed with the help of Tina? Please read and choose the proper linking words. S: ....
T: Which is the topic sentence? Which is the ending?
And the rest are supporting sentences to show what Tina has done to Coco.
Here comes the Tip 4: Have a framework.
T: I do believe that with your help, Coco’s passage has become a perfect one. Let’s read and enjoy. Step Seven: Writing
T: As we know, an end means a new beginning. You’ll set out on a new journey in Senior high school. You’ll meet some new good teachers too. What kind of teachers do you expect to have? S: I expect/ hope to have teachers who .... In that case, I will .... S: ....
T: Would you like to share your ideas with our school magazine Sunshine? It is asking for your articles. Now please read it by yourself and circle the key words. S: ....
