Teaching Aims:
1. To develop the students’ ability of reading comprehension by organizing different activities.
2. To enable the students to talk about Neil Armstrong by using the words, phrases and sentences learnt.
3. To encourage students to talk about the key to the success of the great people and what they can learn from the great people.
Teaching procedures:
Step1 Lead in
Q1: Who was the first man to enter space in China?
Q2: Who was the first female astronaut to enter space in China? Q3: Who was the first man to walk on the moon in the world?
Step2 Pre-reading
1. Check homework about new words. 2. Read new words.
Step3 While-reading
1. Task One Listen to the tape and underline the major events and the time .
2. Task two 1) Stick each major event on the big paper in the right order and write down the time each major event happened.
Major Events:
● He became a test pilot.
● He was chosen to become an astronaut. ● He was born in Ohio. ● He took his first flight.
● He joined the navy and served as a pilot. ● He received his student pilot’s licence.
● He walked on the moon and said the famous saying. ● He went into space as Command pilot of Gimini 8.
