Up to now, students have finished studying book1-book7 but are still confused about how to memorize vocabulary efficiently and accurately. With an increasing number of vocabulary in College Entrance Examination, teachers and students are facing a tough problem about how to enlarge related vocabulary. Based on this situation, I have spent large amounts of time summarizing some practical vocabulary memorizing strategies and studying The New Revised Curriculum Standards(2017)Chen yuanbao version. Afterwards, I have selected 40 typical vocabulary and created various activities, including text reading, tips summarizing, information match, mind mapping, team competition etc. With the assistance of Seewo White Board 5, I will guide students to master the given vocabulary within the required time by using different strategies and to improve students’ ability in different aspects of Core Competence of English Subject.
Teaching objectives

Students will improve the following abilities based on what has been learnt: 1. Students’ capacity of generalization will be developed by summarizing five vocabulary memorizing strategies after reading a text.
2. Students’ analytical and identifying ability will be improved by identifying common prefixes or suffixes, compound words and opposites.
3. Students’ application ability will be strengthened by applying the strategies to specific exercises. Cultural awareness
1. Promote students’ acceptance of English language and its culture by finishing different tasks including word formation .
2. Show love for our own culture by translating the sentence with “content” into Chinese. Thinking quality
Cultivate students’ logical, critical and creative thinking quality by finishing related exercises about information match, association, mind mapping and team competition . Learning capacity
1. Students’ self-learning, cooperative learning and competitive awareness will be improved by summarizing 5 strategies,finishing mind mapping, finishing“Super Brain”competition.
2. Students’ active inquiry ability will be improved and be willing to explore other vocabulary memorizing strategies by imagining other vocabulary in line with the first two tips.
3. Students will form related learning strategies by finishing the self-reflection evaluation form.

The students’ activities
Step1. Lead-in
Show a short video
about “Vocabulary”.
Activity 1.
Enjoy the video and come up with their own ways to memorize vocabulary.
[ purposes] 运用视频导入新课,引起学生共鸣。让学生自由发言,谈论自己平时识记单词的方法,分享经验。之后,教师引出本节课主题:五种实用的词汇识记策略。以此激起学生学习本课的好奇心和心理期待,为下一环节文本呈现奠定基础。 Step2.
Presentation
Ask the students to read a short passage. Activity 2. Read the short passage and
summarize the five tips on how to memorize vocabulary.
[ purposes] 通过阅读文本,学生在独立完成五种策略的概括后,会对其有初步的感知和建构。该环节属于英语学习活动观中学习理解类活动,有效的培养了学生的概括文本信息能力,并为下一环节开展词汇识记策略的应用实践奠定基础。
Step3. Vocabulary learning

Let the students classify the vocabulary into three groups based on the first three tips. 2.
Explain the first three tips in English. 3.
Explain the last two tips by giving two examples.

Give other examples about one word with different meanings in different contexts.
[ purposes] 本环节设计了6个教学活动。活动一:在学生概括完五种词汇识记策略后,将所给词汇按前三种策略进行分类,实现知识的迁移。活动二:让学生想出其它符合前三种词汇策略的单词,培养学生的发散性思维。活动三:让学生进行反义词词组匹配来提高学生的逻辑思维。活动四:让学生小组合作,把所给单词按照首尾相连的形式绘制思维导图,来提高学生的逻辑性思维和批判性思维。活动五:通过呈现同一单词在不同的语境会有不同的意思来培养学生的发散性思维。同时,展示比较文艺的汉语版本的翻译,加强学生对英语文化的肯定和对中华文化的热爱,进而达成学科素养中文化意识的教学目标。活动六:让学生联想其他有关同一单词在不同语境有不同意思例子,培养学生的知识迁移能力。整个教学主体环节,教师利用希沃白班的蒙层功能,课堂活动中的知识配对等功能辅助教学,让学生在实践过程中实现知识的应用、迁移、创新,充分体现英语学习活动观。 Step4. Consolidation and examination
Give the students some time to remember all the words again. Activity 9. Have a competition for the “Super Brain” . [ purposes] 一节课能否达到授课者的预期目标,需要对学生的掌握情况进行评判。本环节属于检测环节。教师利用希沃白板中课堂活动之分组竞争功能,运用班级优化大师随机抽取学生进行检测,找到本节课的“最强大脑”,给予奖励。以此来激励获奖同学和其他同学对英语学习持久热爱的思维品质。 Step5. Self-evaluation
Ask students to finish the self-reflection evaluation form. Activity 10. Finish the self-reflection evaluation form. [ purposes] 让学生独立完成自我反思评价表,结合自身实际及本节课吸收掌握情况,在学习策略,思维品质,课堂参与度等方面自我梳理、总结本节课的收获,反思不足,实现多元评价,提高学习能力。 Step6. Homework Assign homework. 1. Remember the words you haven't
remembered well.
2. Try to find other methods that can help you memorize vocabulary. Finish the homework after class. [ purposes] 本节课的作业有两项:其一,通过让学生识记本节课没有掌握清楚的词汇,巩固所学内容;其二,探索其它有助于识记单词的方法来养成良好的学习习惯和利用多种渠道获取学习资源的学习能力。

As we all know, vocabulary is the basis of language learning. But most learners find it hard to memorize it. Don't worry. Here are some useful tips that can help you.
* Word formation is quite useful, especially the prefixes and suffixes. Here, prefixes mean some structures ahead of a main word, which have some specific meanings.Eg,"re"means "again",so review means “view it again". Similarly, suffixes mean some structures following a main word.Eg. "-able" means having the ability to do something. So, "eatable" means something that can be eaten.
* Compound words can make up a lot of new words. A new word which is made up of two or more words is called a compound word. It can have a new meaning.Eg, head+teacher means a teacher who is in charge of your class.
* Some words can have opposites. Eg. big is opposite to small. You can remember them as a pair.
* Word webs play an important role in memorizing words. When you see a word, you can imagine related words based on the front or the last of the word to form a word web, which makes memorizing interesting and fun. Eg. mistake - misunderstand - understand -undergraduate - graduate - graduation.
* The context is another way to help you memorize vocabulary. A word may have different meanings in different sentences. So don't separate them from a specific context. Eg. He is lying on the ground, lying that China lies in Europe.
Of course, there are many other ways for you to memorize words. No matter which method you choose, just remember: as long as it helps you memorize vocabulary, it is the best.
