4. Teaching Objectives (1) Knowledge Objective
1) To help students to review the the advantages and disadvantages of cloning. 2) To help students understand what gene editing is.
3) To arouse students’ awareness of both the advantages and disadvantages of
gene editing.
4) To enable students to grasp some words and phrases connected with gene
editing.
5) To help students to understand what they should pay attention to when they
are writing a composition.

6) To get students highly involved in discussion about gene editing. 7) To develop students’ ability to think critically.
8) To train students’ ability to grasp the main idea of a short passage. 9)

Step 1. Lead-in: Review what we learned yesterday (Cloning and DNA)(3 mins) 1) Ask students what DNA is.
2) Review the advantages and disadvantages of cloning.
Step 2. Listening: What is gene editing ? (5 mins)
1) Ask students what gene-editing is(in English).
2) Listen to a short passage to find out what gene-editing is.
3) Look at the script and listen to the passage again and fill in the blanks. 4) Check the answers.
5) Ask students to read the words after me.
Step 3. Discussion: Are you for gene editing? Why or why not?( 12 mins)
1) Share a piece of news about gene editing with the students.
2) Lead to the topic of gene editing and ask the students to discuss this topic. 3) Ask some students to present their ideas about gene editing.
Step 4. Listening:Listen to a passage and find out other people’s opinions for and

against gene editing. (20 mins)
1) Listen to a passage about other people’s opinions about gene editing. 2) Listen to the passage again and ask the students to take down some notes. 3) Look at its script and listen to it again and fill in the blanks. 4) Listen to it again and continue to fill in the blanks. 5) Check the answers.
6) Read the words after me.
7) Read the passage and take some notes about other people’s opinions for and against gene editing.
8) List other people’s opinions for and against gene editing
9) Make a conclusion about the advantages and disadvantages of gene editing.
Step 5. Writing(Homework):Write a composition about gene editing(for or against it). (5 mins)
1) Instructions:1.Introduce the topic and answer the question.
2.Give reasons for your opinion. Use these words: firstly, secondly, lastly or to begin with, in addition, what’s more.
3.Make a conclusion.
2) Ask the students to refer to the paper for marking a composition.
